How much control should a government have in a mixed-market economy?

I'm writing an essay about this topic, and I just wanted to know what you guys thought! Any help would be greatly appreciated =)How much control should a government have in a mixed-market economy?
A government should have necessary control, but not too much.

In a mixed economy, the government owns infrastructure, medicare, social security, they spend on law enforcement as well as education. We have a mixed economy in the United States. How much control should a government have in a mixed-market economy?
Their should be a very limited role of government. Its primary purpose is to protect private property. Its role it NOT to redistribute private property. Providing education is a good idea, but not necessarily the governments obligation. If it was not provided publicly, there would be more privately run primary and secondary schools. It does have a role to provide infrastructure since goods like roads are public goods. Though, if it did not, there would be toll roads instead. We actually do pay for roads indirectly instead of directly.
The more the government plays a role in our economic life the more our freedoms erode. Government does not create wealth but simply redistributes it. When used for national defense, highways, sewers, public utilities etc. OK. But when they start to redistribute they quash initiative and you end up with more and more people depending on the government for their support from housing to food. If you like socialism, move to Europe. If you prefer free enterprise (capitalism), stay here and protect that freedom.
