Besides brushing a dog - What is a way to control shedding?

I have a 9 month old Great Pyrenees and she sheds very bad. I brush her all the time and it just don't help. It comes out in big white clumps and it everywhere and out of control. Is there a treatment that can be done besides shaving her?Besides brushing a dog - What is a way to control shedding?
This is exactly why we tell people that a pyr is not for everyone %26amp; they should learn all about the breed traits before getting one. If the shedding bothers you this much, you may have chosen the wrong dog for you.

Pyrs shed most once in the fall and once in the spring. They shed more then to change from summer coat to winter coat, and from winter coat back to summer coat. The rest of the year they also shed, but less so.

DO NOT SHAVE YOUR DOG! The fur grows in a way meant to protect the dog's skin from sunburn in summer, and from cold weather and rain in winter and rainy season. You harm the dog if you shave her. It's also inappropriate to shave her just because you don't like the fact that she needs to be groomed regularly. That's a fact of life with a pyr. You need to join a pyr group to ask questions and learn about the breed.

You can take her every month or two to a PetSmart to have her groomed and the undercoat combed out. That will help. Get a groomer who's well experienced with great pyrenees.

OR

you can get a rake, a slicker brush, a comb, another comb with alternating length teeth, and learn to comb her out some every 2-3 days yourself. That will form a bond between you both as well as socialize her and it's good for both of you.

If you know anyone who spins their own wool, they'd LOVE to have some pyr fur to spin.

At PetSmart, they use the Furminantor DeShedding conditioner as part of the treatment. I took my pyrs in for their first grooming this summer and was very pleased with the results. My groomer got ALL the undercoat out so they were silky and shed a lot less for weeks. -!-Besides brushing a dog - What is a way to control shedding?
All dogs shed but should only shed twice a year, seasonally. Excessive shedding all year round for any breed can be a sign of poor nutrition. Check the ingredients in your dog's food to make sure that she is getting meat as the main ingredients of her food, not corn, not meat flavoring, not chemical preservatives and dyes.

Then, find a quality supplement to add to this diet because commercial pet foods are heat processed and many nutrients your dog needs are actually cooked out of the food. So, adding vitamins and enzymes and probiotics is necessary.

Keep her on this type of diet for life, not just until she stops shedding. Remember that it may be a while before her shedding slows down, but it will!
Feed her a high quality food. Corn, wheat, soy, and chemical ingredients can cause skin issues and excessive shedding. Try Canidae, California Natural, Innova, or Wellness.

California Natural Skin and Coat Supplement works like a charm to end shedding.

There are other supplements you can try.

Shampoo has nothing to do with shedding.

Vacuuming is key. Vacuum the dog if she'll let you.
Nope - brushing and vacuuming is about it. There is no ';miracle'; stopper for shedding - no shampoo, no grooming tips, nadda. She is shedding because she HAS to - it's the bodies way of getting rid of dead hairs.

Perfectly natural and normal for her breed - did you not come across this during your research?

Note: In very RARE cases poor diet can contribute to shedding. Changing diet to a kibble with NO corn or by-products MAY help, but won't get rid of it totally (especially in a breed well known for massive shedding.)
no treatments. thats like asking if there are treatments to stop peoples dead skin cells from falling off.

if shedding was this much of a problem, you should not have gotten a pyrenees.

you can get special brushes that get all of the loose hairs off you dog (search for the ';furminator'; brush). they work pretty good.

also for a bit more money, you can go to the groomers and they will probably have some technics to help with this.
you should brush her then give her a bath to get extra fur off of her the when shes some what wet like when her fur is damp brush her again then when her fur is completely dry brush her again. i know its a lot of brushing but this works with my dog hope that it helps :)
she is shedding her puppy coat, it will get better as she gets older, but not by much. Get a good ';for pets'; vacuum cleaner and use it. Also, she will shed less with a healthy diet, I have two poms and they shed less *it seems* now that i have them on the RAW diet. They also get a bath every 3 mos and are brushed daily.
Some breeds just shed more than others. Has she been shedding like this all her life, or is it just recent? If it is recent, she could be bathed too often, causing dry skin. If you are brushing your dog, make sure your getting to the undercoat. Check her skin to, has she been scratching lately?
A good diet and daily brushing will help LOADS. I have a few friends who use the Furminator, you might want to look into that. but it is pricey.

And you have to remember, this breed sheds no matter what. It is something that comes with the breed. It's going to happen.
try a different shampoo.

her hair may be falling out becuase of dry skin so maybe find a nourishing oatmeal shampoo to keep her skin healthy and strong
sure..

its called running the vacumme cleaner.. that helps control the hair.

Shaving wont stop shedding, she will just shed shorter hairs.
You can`t stop shedding. If her coat is shiny and her skin is good, I wouldn`t worry. NEVER shave a dog!
Yes. It's called ';not having a dog';.
